Hey Ross - thanks for recommending I read your blog post. Before reading, I was 'on the fence' - unsure if I wanted/needed this new technology. A sticking point for me is constantly consuming new technology - the parts, energy etc that goes into creating such a product; the 'redistribution' of my previous technology (essentially it will be landfill in 10+ years).
In reading your post I've seen an opening and am planning on more research into the iPad, which is better than being 'on the fence' - and a lot less uncomfortable!!
:)
Thanks for sharing your wisdom and perspective
Sam (www.samanthabell.com.au)

Hi Ross,
Thanks for your great comments on the iPad. Makes me want to go out and get one!
Particularly liked the comment you noted:
'Like Dr. Ernest Prabhakar who managed Apple’s Mac OS X open source strategy at Apple wrote – reducing the iPad to a list of features “is like reducing the experience of eating chocolate to a list of chemicals.”'
Sounds smart to me. It sounds appealingly less-clunky than some systems and much more digestible.
Thanks again. P

I've had three mac laptops and more recently I have tried to streamline the apps I use - so with the iPad I'm proposing to take the idea of 'single-tasking' more literally. Most of the stuff I do is online, and most of the other apps that I would switch to I run on my iPhone as well. Time will tell if this is too ambitious!

It seems counter-intuitive to me that an iPad could take the place of a MacBook Pro. Could you expand on how your computing needs or the perception thereof have changed since you got the MacBook Pro? Was it your first Mac?

The iPad is going to create some interesting opportunties in the market. As the product filters through all the marketing channels and is out in the market en mass, consumers will begin to demand different functions and recognise the true potential for usability.

I envision a future where the laptop is replaced by a screen with wireless. This wireless connection connects to the world of cloud computing that takes care of our processing power, storage space, contact lists, etc.

The Desktop machine will always have a place of use as people require a way to interact easily with their respective system. Mice and keyboards (and touch pads for designers) will continue to dominate the market until consumers recognise better opportunties/options and are train in their respective technology.

In the meantime, we'll continue to work with our clients to help them better understand how to use and incorporate all the great tech products and services that are already out in the market today!
